Fotheringham Homes and Brotherton Estates, two family businesses with their heritages firmly rooted in the local area, have come together to create a stylish new housing development in Johnshaven to be known as The Beaches.
The development, located on the Brotherton Estate in the quaint coastal village of Johnshaven, will bring together the ethos of the two families and their commitment to creating a high quality development for the local community.
The Estate has long been an integral part of the local area and this partnership with Fotheringham Homes, renowned across the north-east for their high quality homes, will cement this even further.
Brotherton Estate has been owned by the Alexander Family since 1949 when it was bought by Charles Alexander. At the time Charles’ son was a pupil of Lathallan school in Fife. Following a fire which devastated the school Charles offered Brotherton Castle as an alternative location. The castle is still home to Lathallan to this day – a vibrant co-educational school at the heart of the community.
The Estate tries to employ local people where possible and has also gifted a parcel of land where the community can grow their own flowers and vegetables.
There are also a cluster of turbines on the land and a small amount of Aberdeen Angus cattle to encourage sustainability.Several of the properties on the estate are rented to local people, and a number of holiday cottages will be coming on stream soon.
The Alexander Family have been involved with many committees over the years and are at present working with Benholm Mill, made famous by author Lewis Grassic Gibbon.
This is an exciting new chapter in the long and diverse history of both family businesses which will again demonstrate their commitment to the local area.
